Student Involvement

TCNJ Environmental Organizations:

TCNJ Environmental Club

An active environmental club on campus that is dedicated to holding on-campus events, educating students, and implementing environmental initiatives. We run different projects each semester – in the 2016-2017 year, we are focusing on hosting a speaker, building and supporting TCNJ Bikes, composting efforts, and holding an energy competition.
Students can participate in campus cleanups, or volunteer in Bonner’s Community Garden each week. Students can also develop and present proposals for environmental initiatives to the administration’s environmental committee, PC3, and get involved in our education, event planning, and other committees. We are club that is open to the ideas of new members.
We collaborate with organizations like Bonner, Net Impact, The Outdoors Club, and other community service organizations.

Bonner Scholars

The Bonner Environmental Team has forged a new partnership with the statewide Sustainable Jersey Program as well as our President’s Climate Commitment Committee. The goal is to create a greener world in our towns and on our campus. The team will mobilize other students and together work on range of projects, including forestry inventories, dorm conservation contests, energy audits, community gardens; they will also teach urban youth environmental lessons.

The following link is a video about the Bonner Center and its commitment to a green campus community: TCNJ Demonstration Garden. For more information about upcoming events that the Bonner Center is hosting in regards to the environment, please visit http://bonner.pages.tcnj.edu.

Dorm Initiatives and EcoChallenge

The Presidents’ Climate Commitment Committee, the Bonner Center for Community Engagement, and Sustainable Jersey have in past years taken part in a nationwide “EcoChallenge,” which is organized by the Northwest Earth Institute each year. See this page for more information. For those two weeks, we challenge you to change one habit for Earth. You choose your challenge, we connect you with other EcoChallengers, and collectively we prove that small actions create real change.

TCNJ students living in the dorms are encouraged to conserve energy and water; and via emails, Facebook updates, flyers and videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0Fm-oL_GwA&feature=youtu.be) students are provided ideas about how they can get involved by changing behaviors that can impact their energy consumption.
